South West Academic Trust: Challenging times!

On April 28th a group of eight year 9 Gifted and Talented boys, Rob Arrow, Adrian Bennett, Chris Garrett, Simon Hayward, Ben Hetherington, Tom May, Tayyib Mubashar and Tom Moon, joined similar students from the eight Trust schools across the South West at Exeter University. After lively warm-up activities led by sixth formers George Fielding and James Sutherland, they listened to a thought-provoking lecture on the philosophy of punishment and justice by Mr. Jack Bayliss, a Cambridge graduate with a wealth of experience in preparing students for Oxbridge entry.

The students were then presented with challenging Oxbridge-style questions (Are humans still evolving? Why don't we let the managers of IKEA run the country? etc) to interpret in any way that they wished, and worked on these in cross-school groups. The boys will then be communicating via email with other group members in order to prepare a creative presentation of a response to their question back at Exeter University in July.
