TORQUAY BOYS’ GRAMMAR SCHOOL OUTSTANDING IB RESULTS

The first set of results scored by the 24 IB pioneers was published recently; TBGS, according to information from statistics available, is the top scoring state school in the country with an average of 37 points per candidate and a score of 67% of grades 7 and 6 (the equivalent of A* and A grades at ‘A’ level).  This performance smashes all previous school records, making this cohort by far the most successful in the school’s history.

Congratulations to Ben Howitt who scored 44 out of 45 and to all of the students in the group, many of whom have confirmed their places at top universities including Oxford, Nottingham, Bath and Cardiff.  In fact 7 of the students gained 40 points or more, a score which only 3½% of students worldwide achieved last year.

The performance by all the students of this truly international, rigorous and intellectually challenging qualification is exceptional.  As a new course, the results were anticipated with trepidation; in the event, all the students feel their hard work led to a genuinely fulfilling experience.

In the overall league tables the school is third in the country, with Ben being placed in the top 0.5% of students across the world.
