This part of the course takes a look at the theme Crime and Punishment from Roman Britain to modern day. It requires pupils to be able to identify and analyse key turning points in the history of how we have made laws and dealt with those who break them. Examples of topics studied on this course:
v Witchcraft: why did it become a crime punishable by death?
v Capital punishment: why did Britain stop hanging people?
v Terrorism in the 21st century: an impossible crime to prevent?
The examination for this unit is 1 ¼ hours long, and is based on source evidence as well as own knowledge. Pupils will take this at the end of year 10.
