International Week of Languages
Every year the MFL Department runs a week full of languages sessions and activities to give our students the opportunity to experience languages that they would not normally learn at school such as Italian, Russian, Greek, Arabic, Swedish and Swahili as well as some culture activities: Japanese Origami. These sessions run at lunchtime and they are very popular among the students. On Friday we have a food market with foods from different countries (Spain, France, Germany, China and Greece). Students and staff come to the market to try all the delicious food!
This year we did Assemblies on Diversity, an excellent opportunity to celebrate the wide variety of languages and cultures which we have among the students. We had students saying something in their languages: Chinese, French, German, Swedish, Estonian, Spanish, Italian, Urdu, Arabic, Russian, Greek, Tagalog, Gujarati ... hearing all those languages was amazing!
During the week Y9 students have a Languages Enrichment Day with activities such as Japanese with Mrs Allen and Mrs Caul, Finnish with Mr Garner, Business with Languages: promoting a product abroad with Mrs Foster, Audacity (putting sound to texts in different languages) with Mr Zursiedel and Miss Roberts, and a Culture Quiz run by the 4 Language Assistants.
