Work Experience
In previous years students have taken part in Work Experience in the first week of September before they start the Year 11 academic year. After speaking to a group of parents, there were concerns that the beginning of such an important school year was not the best time to be out of school for a week.
Therefore, it has been decided that Work Experience will now take place at the end of Year 11(for your son that will be June/July 2011). This will be within a four week period from the end of GCSE's in mid June and the end of term on the 22nd July.
Students will have the usual Careers Day in January. This is aimed at guiding them towards sorting out and booking their Work Experience placements. There will be opportunities throughout the day to have help with interview techniques, CV compilation, Connexions assistance and team building exercises.
Although it may seem a long way off, it is a good idea for your son to start thinking about what he may like to do. With hundreds of students going out from many schools at this time there is a lot of competion for places.
If there is any thing you would like to discuss, regarding Work Experience, please do not hesitate to contact me through the school on X285 or by email sparnell@tbgs.torbay.sch.uk. Your son can also come and see Mrs Sarah Parnell in the Careers centre at anytime.
