Greenpower is a company set up to
promote Engineering amongst secondary school students in 1999, they have
ran annual races for schools since then, the regulations have changed
over time but mainly in the aim of equalling out the field.
All teams participating must use the same electric motor (which is
sealed) and the same batteries giving everyone a fair chance of winning,
in the past teams who have spent just a few hundred pounds have beaten
teams who have spent thousands, this shows how Greenpower is about
design and not necessarily money.
The corporate challenge
In 2008 the corporate challenge was started, where teams (of usually
apprentices and graduate students) from engineering firms build a car to
compete against teams in the main Greenpower competition. In the past
Bentley has competed, this year it has been confirmed Jaguar-Land Rover
will be entering and also Prodrive, who run the Aston Martin racing team
and until recently Subaru's WRC team.
If we qualify for the National final we would relish the opportunity of
competing with these teams.
