Davys House
Davys House was named after John Davis (or Davys), born c. 1550.
A British explorer, writer on seamanship, and inventor of the double quadrant, a navigational instrument. In three attempts after 1585 to find a northwest passage to India, he made extensive explorations in the Arctic, exploring Davis Strait and discovering the Falkland Islands. On December 27, 1605, while on an expedition to Sumatra, he was killed by Japanese.
