GCSE Exam Results 2007
Torquay Boys’ Grammar School students have recorded an absolutely astonishing set of GCSE results – by far the best year on record. 23 students passed 10 A*s each or more. 3 boys – Philip Brown, Josh Goodwill and Matthew Hickey – gained 12 straight A*s, another 4 – Joe Brook, Sam Channon, Michael Fisher and Ben Martin – scored 11A*s, an amazing 9 more – Joseph Bailey, David Blackwell, Graham Broome, Dominic Falcao, Christopher Gossage, James Hardy, Chris Mayo, Joseph Pike and Michael Shute – scored 10A*s. A further 53 boys gained at least 10As and A*s each. 100% of the 152 students scored at least 7 A* - C grades, with an average of 11.55 passes per candidate.
The A*s percentage stands at 32.1, As were 38.5, B – 18.8, C – 8.3, D – 2 and E – 0.3, with a 97.73 pass rate.
11 students were nominated as the top students in their subjects by the various examination boards. Joe Brook was nominated in English Literature, as was Philip Brown, being in the top 5 in the country. Dominic Falcao was nominated both for English Language and English Literature, Josh Goodwill was in the top 5 in the country for French and for English, Chris Gossage was in the top 5 for French and English, whilst Matt Hickey was in the top 5 in the country for Spanish and French. Dan Comley was in the top 5 for Business Studies. These boys will be visiting the exam board headquarters to pick up medals and be congratulated on their outstanding achievements. Head Roy Pike congratulated all the boys involved – “This has been a tremendous year; the boys are particularly motivated and they have been an absolute pleasure to work with. Staff clearly have the expertise and commitment to deliver the highest quality results. And as for the old chestnut – please don’t tell me that these boys aren’t working hard – they are absolutely committed to achieving high results with all the stress and industry that that requires. Anybody who believes that 11 or 12 GCSE A*s are easy – come along and have a go!”
