| Welcome to Torquay Boys’ Grammar School. |
TBGS is a synthesis, combining all that is best from the past – traditional values of courtesy, punctuality and smartness – with the best of the future – modern technologies, research, enterprise and ambition. In 2004 we celebrated our centenary, 100 years of academic excellence. More than that, however, as the recent Ofsted report said “this drive for academic achievement is balanced by a deep commitment to students’ wider personal and social development. The curriculum is greatly enriched by an extensive range of cultural and sporting activities …. students flourish in this purposeful, supportive and stimulating atmosphere”. |

Along with governors and staff, I as Head have set down our objectives for the future. We are determined to retain the academic results comparable with the highest quality in the land. We want to provide all-embracing pastoral care, to encourage the highest endeavour in sport and expressive and creative activities and to strive to maintain and improve our national and international reputation. |
Our students are “eager to assume responsibility and leadership” continues Ofsted and they become “articulate and confident young men”. “They adopt healthy lifestyles” whilst the “pursuit of excellence is combined with a strong sense of care and humanity”. “Innovation and good practice” are part of school life which encourages students to develop the learning skills which they will need for university and beyond. The formal curriculum is “greatly enriched by an outstanding array of educational visits and activities”. Our Ofsted report concluded “the school is enthused with a lively and open atmosphere which encourages innovation and underpins a relentless drive to provide the very best education for the student”. “One parent wrote ““we are extremely pleased with the school, its work ethic, its nurturing atmosphere and the hard work and dedication of its staff””. This aptly captures some of the strengths of the school.” |
Our vision is that the Graduate of Torquay Boys’ Grammar School will be: - A smart, courteous individual; Mr R.E. Pike Headmaster |
