Modern Foreign Languages - Head of Department: Mrs M G Foster

Torquay Boys' Grammar School became a Language College in 1996 and we believe that languages are a very important part in our students’ education. The school has been granted Language College Status and we are currently on our fourth phase. Torquay Boys' Grammar School can continue to provide its students with a rounded education in which languages are an important part.

Torquay Boys' Grammar School students have the opportunity to learn the following languages:

Our students come to the Languages purpose-built block to study one or more languages from Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish and all the languages staff is working very hard to ensure that all our students leave the school at the end of Year 13 with at least two languages to different levels.

When students start learning a language at KS3 they are extremely enthusiastic about their language learning and we try hard to enthuse them all by stretching them and providing them with the necessary tools to develop their language skills from the very beginning so that they not only enjoy their learning but realise the importance of languages for their future careers.
