Sport at TBGS
Sport is a big part of life at TBGS. We compete locally and nationally in several sports, and run lunchtime and after-school clubs for boys to participate in whichever sport they choose. Below are some reasons why sports are an important part of life at TBGS.
Sport
- Sport is to the body what study is to the mind.
- The school is committed to curriculum sport for all.
- Sport provides for the essentials of character building – leadership, teamwork, the will to win, the ability to lose.
- Sport provides for a further dimension in the pupil/staff relationship.
- Sport provides success and a sense of achievement.
- Sport is available for fun, at inter-house level, inter-school, county, regional and national level.
- Provision is there to nurture talent at all levels.
- Coaches are increasingly being recruited to support the highly qualified PE staff, e.g. in swimming, tennis, sailing, rugby, hockey and football.
- The Trust’s all-weather pitch provides for tennis and hockey on which coaches are being used after school.
- The joint astro-turf with Torquay Girls’ Grammar further enhances hockey.
- The school has at its disposal an entire sports complex of high quality grass pitches, a half size six tennis court all-weather pitch, a full size astro-turf and a 33x19 sports hall available for County activities.
- Cricket is strong, given the sports hall, cricket nets and the new levelled wicket.
- New extensive changing rooms with underfloor heating and highest quality facilities have raised morale further.
